South Kesteven CBN meeting update

posted 23 May 2013, 04:41 by Bret Allibone

I attended the South Kesteven CBN (Community Badminton Network) yesterday with Chris Graves (chair), Rod Tyler (treasurer), Vince Brittain (Inspire+), Phil Jordon (SKDC) and Will Wallace (BADMINTON England).

The headlines were:

 - BADMINTON England are focussing on getting twenty more 16+ year-olds playing badminton weekly but do still support other programmes and have a coaching bursary which can be accessed by application.  They also have a target from Sport England to start 250 satellite clubs and have funding to support this

 - Inspire+ are excited about Sport Premium which is ring-fenced government funding going into primary schools as this replaces the previously axed post Olympic funding.  They will continue to work with the schools to provide more access to sport but are expecting the funding to dry up after two years

 - SBC and Inspire+ will look into putting together a Sportivate funded six week programme for 11-25 year-olds next season with a view to feed any interested parties into our club

Overall it was an interesting insight into the local support available to badminton clubs such as ours.  If we are ever looking to getting a new idea off the ground or short of resources then the CBN would be an excellent place to seek advice.

They meet 2-3 times a year and I hope to attend the next meeting.

Match report - Mens league - Rockingham vs SBC

posted 30 Apr 2013, 03:07 by Bret Allibone

Keen to finish the season on a high we were lucky to be able to get a strong team together for the journey to Rockingham.

After the first legs we all came off the court and asked the usual questions to gauge the task ahead of us and the answers were the best they could be: 0-3!

The next round was never going to be easy with their first pair up against our third as well as their notoriously dogged second pair facing our first. However, when we reconvened after these tricky games to establish our position the scorecard read 0-6!!

Our work was done as winning any other games would only count if our total league points were a tie which was not a possibility.

2-7 is our best result of the season, and away from home too.

Well done.

Sport England Survey

posted 25 Apr 2013, 02:04 by Bret Allibone

Sport England would like to know what Stamford Badminton Club's members think of their club.

It's the smallest survey ever at only four questions and they don't even ask for any personal details so that puts you fresh out of excuses!
